Man’s Face Eaten by Fungus
December 4th, 2006
So like I’ve clearly stated before it isn’t my nature to be dedicated enough to keep blogging consistently. It’s been a while.
A few exciting things have happened here and there - went to a country bar with brad, thanksgiving out at hood canal, a couple more parties. In retrospect, this quarter (there’s naught but 1 week of real school left) has been pretty mellow, bordering on straight-up lameness. Partly due to the nature of me, partly due to our location, partly due to my extended gloominess regarding certain peoples escaping the country without me. I look forward to taking break to regroup and try to once again get my shit together.
I haven’t been terribly active in searching for a job, but I did get a small gig for this week. Near the end of October, Ben told me about a friend of a friend who was looking for people to help spread the word about an upcoming film release in Seattle. Getting invovled sounded interesting at the time, but I didn’t end up calling the guy until this weekend - not realizing that the film opens this friday. Turns out that they still would like all the help they can get. Also turns out that I’ll be the ONLY person in Seattle helping spread the word on a grass-roots level. They’re paying me for my time, which involves going to shows/events to pass out flyers. They’re also giving me a copy of the film, the filmmakers first film, and maybe some more swag. Alex (a friend of the filmmaker and part of the distrubution team) also mentioned the possibility of having coffee with the filmmaker - his name is Andrew Bujalski if you’ve heard of him, which I doubt.
If anyone is interested in checking out the film, you can find a trailer at mutualappreciation.com. It’s a very low budget indie film, but it’s feature length, and filmed on 16mm (if anyone knows anything about filmmaking, working with film instead of digital is much more costly and resource hungry). I’d be interested myself in using actual film instead of digital, but the costs are very hard to overcome.
I have to run and go finish some work and then check out a chemistry seminar. I may not get back to writing in this thing until break, since I tend to space out anyway, and I’ll probably be busy studying for ochem and putting together my english portfolio. Most of break will be spent in Tacoma, but we’re going skiing with the family for a few days down in oregon, and i might come back to seattle once or twice.
That is all for now.
